DiMarzio DP189 Tone Zone S AW

Nice swap option for strat. Replaced the original single coil at the bridge with this, as the original single doesnt have enough drive for lead sounds and this worked perfecetly.

Doesn have same ammount of power as standard HB so dont expect to turn your strat into LP, but is enough for solid hard rock sound on first position while keepin the benefit of havin other singles in the guitar. With overdrive stompbox even handles metal sound.

Ive kept it with the original 250k pot in the strat wiring and it still works fine for me. Good balance in volume with the singles (fender noiseless) while only adding overdrive for distorted sounds.

So, I finally got the pickup installed in my USA Standard Stratocaster.

It does exactly what it says on the tin, in terms of beefing up a strat bridge tone.

It does not offer the same amount of top end cut of a single coil and is surprisingly "middley" in tone. But, when pushed it does liven up and generate a nice distorted tone that breaks through the mix well in a band situation.

The fourth position, middle and bridge combined does retain that "hollow" strat tone and again is very good at breaking through the mix.

My only negative on the sound would be that as with all ceramic magnets, the breakup can sound a little fizzy if not managed correctly with the EQ and pedals accordingly.

I expected a very trebly tone from this pickup and was pleasantly surprised by how balanced the overall output is. It isn't and never will be the same as a full blown humbucker pickup in my opinion as it doesn't seem to have that "open-ness" that one gets from a nice Alnico 2 magnet. But then again, why would it?

Monté sur une Stratocaster American Standard en position bridge (dont je ne me servais pas) avec un câblage classique en série, j'ai désormais accès à une palette de sons plus aggressifs.

Ce qui est exceptionnel, c'est que le micro sonne "humbucker", donc plus proche d'une Gibson, mais ne masque pas complètement la personalité de la stratocaster. On conserve une attaque très dynamique et un son relativement brillant.

En clean, c'est assez froid avec une résonnance dans le haut-medium assez prononcée, peu de basses et peu d'aigües.
En disto, on assiste au hurlement d'un grand fauve déchaîné avec un son délicieusement imparfait et plutôt gras, car la lutherie de la strat empêche d'obtenir une disto précise.

Edit: désormais monté en splitable, le son est très très proche du micro simple d'origine en configuration splittée. Si vous investissez dans un push-pull, vous conserverez alors toute la versatilité de la strat mais avec une option plus "metal" s'il faut.

Das ist schon der zweite DiMarzio Tone Zone S Humbucker im Singlecoilformat den ich verbaut habe.

Warum? Irgendwie hatte ich immer ein komisches Gefühl bei diesen "schmalen" Humbuckern, dachte, dass sie mit den normalformatigen nicht mithalten können, das Gefühl habe ich beim DiMarzio Tone Zone S nicht!

Ich bin nicht gut im Beschreiben von Sounds (obertonreich, mittenreich, satte Bässe????), außerdem kommt das so sehr auf den Verstärker oder auch auch verwendete Pedale an! Ich kann nur sagen, dass mir der Sound sehr gut gefällt, die Gitarre dadurch am Steg sehr viel fetter wird, sich besser im Bandkontext durchsetzt und man eine universell einsetzbare Strat bekommt!

Ich hab den DiMarzio in normaler Serienschaltung verbaut, die Kabel erscheinen mir schon sehr sehr dünn - im Gegensatz zu denen der Texas Special Custom Shop - deshalb nur 4 Sterne bei der Verarbeitung, da bin ich aber zu wenig Elektriker um sagen zu können ob sich das auswirken müsste, soundtechnisch dürfte es aber offensichtlich keine Auswirkungen haben!
