An OK lute that feels history-inspired

The wood feels very light and soft to touch, you need to take care not to damage it. While it's not uncomfortable to play, it does take some getting used to.

Biggest downside for me are the tuners - historical tuners on a lute with 15 strings total mean that you will have to tune... a lot. This is actually something that bars me from playing the lute on any live gig. Having this experience, I would rather purchase a lute with modern tuners and mask them somehow.

The sound is reasonable enough for this kind of wood. Do note that it's not very loud and may get overshadowed easily by other historical instruments if not amplified.

I have little knowledge on how historically accurate it actually is. But looks good enough to not feel out of place on historical events. Nonetheless I feel that making it look and feel historical has caused some serious limitations on the playability and sound of the instrument.

It's okayish if you're looking for something historical. For actual playing and sound only, I'd give it only two stars out of five.

an excellent deal

Well, the only way to get a genuine 8 string renaissance lute, was to spend thousands to get a custom built one. Until now! Thomann supplied a quality instrument for the money, well made and sounds great, plus you get a quality padded gigbag. Even to get exactly the same instrument, from a luthier, would cost 3 or 4 times as much. A fascinating instrument for the price of a decent guitar.

Disappointed by the overall instrument.

It is very hard to tune this lute because the pegs do not stay in place. You have to push it very hard and even so, it won't stay much in tune. The sound isn't great either. Honestly for the practicality it shouldn't be more 100$. You can buy guitars at 100$ that will sound divine compared to this lute... I think I will have to return it!

Impossible to tune and poorly constructed

I purchased this expecting while not a perfect instrument, at least something that could hold a tune for more than a few seconds. The pegs slip constantly or are otherwise stiff, a fret is placed in the wrong place and the instrument is completely unplayable. I am extremely disappointed since I expected something a lot more from thomann. Will most likely be returning if I can't get it set up
