A good budget bass
Michael W. 151 23.05.2017
Due to neck problems, I needed a more manageable bass - short-scale was called for. I looked around, tried some and decided on the Talman.

Finish and quality are very good and it is a very good player with a similarly good sound - the pickups are fine and I don't feel the need to upgrade them.

However, especially given my reason for buying the bass, it is a neck diver in a big way. I've deducted a star from 'Quality' for this reason alone.

To alter the balance, I fitted Schaller Light heads (recommended but 2L+2R aren't sold by Thomann) and a Schaller 3D bridge (which is sold by Thomann). At ¤140 for the extras, that almost doubles the price of the bass - but it is now a very nicely balanced bass.

So, I now have an excellent short-scale bass that has a great, punchy sound but is not light on the bass end.

I can recommend the bass, no doubt, but buyers should be aware of the balance problem.

Separately, Thomann's usual amazing service made buying from them a pleasure.

Love it
Waggs 08.08.2019
Wanted a short scale bass for a while and decided to go for this one as I have other Ibanez guitars and like them a lot.
Had to set it up a bit, truss rod adjustment, bridge lowered and I also had to lower the pick ups as when I was playing hard the strings would hit the magnets and make a horrible bang.
Now it's a wonderful bass to play. I find it so easy to fly around the fret board. Really nice neck.
Only problem is the balance of the instrument, bit of neck dive when standing and playing. But I have to say when I am home and practicing this is the bass I always pick up.
Sounds like a large bass. very pleased with it and will never part with it.

Brilliant!
Anonymní 01.10.2016
I was looking for a bass that wasn't as big and clunky as others, but also had enough pickups to really be able to play with the tone, and this does that brilliantly!
There wasn't a lot of stuff online about this bass, but if you're looking for a smaller bass that sounds and plays just as good as bigger ones, then this is for you. It seem quite underrated, honestly.
It also keeps tune. Like, it just keeps tunes. What more can you ask for?
Would recommend for beginners to intermediates, as by the time you get to pro you'll already know what you want and have bigger better basses to play with, but until then, this will satisfy the funk perfectly.

Big Fun in a Short Scale Package
Low Voltage Warning 07.07.2026
I bought the Ibanez TMB30 as my first proper bass, mainly because I wanted something approachable, comfortable, and short scale without feeling like a toy. On that front, it has absolutely delivered.

The short scale makes it very easy to pick up, especially coming from guitar, and the neck feels friendly rather than intimidating. It is comfortable to play standing or sitting, the build quality feels solid, and the overall finish is excellent for the price. Nothing about it feels cheap in the way budget instruments sometimes can.

Feature-wise, it gives you a lot to work with. The pickup setup is flexible, the controls are simple, and it covers a useful range of tones without needing a degree in knobology. The sound is very good overall, though I have given it 4 stars rather than 5 because it is not pretending to be a premium studio bass. It sounds great for the money, sits well in mixes and practice tracks, and has plenty of character.

The main thing, though, is that it is just hugely enjoyable to play. It feels accessible, encouraging, and surprisingly capable. For anyone looking for a first bass, a short scale option, or simply something fun that does not feel like a compromise, the TMB30 is very easy to recommend.

In short: great value, great feel, solid quality, and far more fun than something this sensible has any right to be.
