a “sound standard” for the old rockers
Although tone is more of a personal issue and at the end of the day it comes down to what you like, what you have got used to hear or, maybe, what you would like to achieve, these humbuckers definitely provide the basic sound of rock and roll.
As the sound of rock music changed through the years from one continent to another and as it is kind of hard to write about something that you should rather hear, I will bring it down to only a few remarks.
These humbuckers mounted in a Gibson Les Paul and sent without any effects through a Marshall tube amplifier (some of the older ones are recommended) deliver the smooth and crunchy sounds that I personally like and end up to dial in mostly every time.
In terms of responsiveness these humbuckers are way ahead of any other tried before, so all the sound lies in your hands and responds to your choice of expression. If you turn down the volume you get clean tones even at higher gain amp setting and as you turn the knob up the dirt starts to show topping in a beautiful warm crunch. The humbuckers are of medium output comparable with the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover model.
The fact that they are not wax potted does affect the sound in a positive way and nowadays it is not an issue anymore as we do not get the chance to play that loud.

My Favorite Humbuckers In The Right Guitar
Ive put these in a few of my Knaggs Kenai and Gibson Les Pauls. Im no tone geek but I do seem to like the Alnico II sound a bit more. I recently put them in my 52 Goldtop conversion instead of the Amber pickups that were installed. Not every pickup sounds good in every guitar. Its often a hit or miss. In this case it was the better descision to install them.

Vintage sound returns home
After putting a set a while ago in a Vintage V100PGM LP, decided to buy another set for my Epiphone LP 50s. The sound of the neck PUP is rounded and fat, yet still defined. Bridge is very pleasant to play even clean, not overly aggressive , but with some crunch ,can get angry the right way. Love these PUPs.
Just wish Thomann would have in stock the Retrospec'd Antiquity series,
the same PUPs but without aged covers,bolts...
