Quilter Elevate

První dojem: to musí být analog! Zvukově i feelingem se totiž chová shodně na singly i HB jako můj pedalboard s nejdražšími boutique a vintage efekty Morley, Effectrode, Boss, Ibanez, T-Rex Tape delay atd a výstupním preampem s 3x tube Imperial Tone King II. Jsem naprosto fascinován a nevím, co dodat. Snad jen, že přes stejné kytary a aparáty FRFR, PA i studio monitory letěly skutečně digitálně, ostře a nepřirozeně znějící Kemper, Cortex, Headrush, Line 6 Helix, Nux a Boss GT i ME ze studia a po testu s kapelou live zpět na prodejny, resp. na bazar. Milióny možností, ale celkově digitální a chemický zvuk v žádném případě zvukově nenahradily můj analog pedalboard. Quilter Elevate ho nahradil stejným feelingem, stejně hutným, čitelným, měkkým a přirozeným zvukem, není nutné ani používat za ním ještě ten lampový Imperial Tone King preamp, ani z perfektních studio monitorů nepoznám žádný rozdíl ve zvuku. Nastavení a přeskládání vlastních presetů je složitější, chce to software editor a určitě bude vhodný i externí midi switch na pohodlnější použití hlavně live. Za to ovládání hvězdička dolů, byť i centrální hlasitost lze snadno nastavovat jedním klikem na ikonu Output a tím jediným otočným knoflíkem na panelu Elevate.

I had high hopes for this device, but I found it mediocre at best.

Pros:

- Amp tones are decent, ranging from clean sounds to high-gain djenty stuff

- Built-in effects are great

- Construction feels solid

Cons:

- It has a tiny, crappy screen. Navigation is difficult, and deep editing is extremely hard without a PC.

- The web app is buggy, very often it doesn’t register changes, or registers them with a 10 second delay.

- You can’t load your own impulse responses.

- Shaping your amp tone is complicated, and it’s unclear what to expect from the “Tilt” sliders.

- The signal clips at the input when I pick hard, even with passive PAF pickups. There is no input gain setting, and the manufacturer confirmed that I can’t do anything about it.

- No built-in overdrives or pitch shifter.

- No ASIO drivers, enjoy 100 ms latency.

I am sorry Quilter, but competition offers much more for less money.

Elevate is a genuinely exciting and forward-thinking unit because it actually does something different. Instead of being yet another digital box trying to recreate the usual Fender, Marshall or Dumble tones, it feels like its own take on modern guitar amplification — or an “anti-modeler”, as Quilter puts it.

The pre/post EQ and gain-stage architecture gives you a very deep level of tone shaping, especially if you enjoy building your own response and feel rather than just scrolling through presets. It does require some understanding, but that is also what makes it so rewarding.

The effects are excellent as well, which is not surprising given Neunaber’s involvement. Overall, Elevate feels like a next-generation approach to digital guitar amplification: compact, flexible, musical, and genuinely inspiring.
